About Me

Hi!

I'm Rose.

I'm from a small town in a country at the bottom of the planet called New Zealand. I live with three other humans and a cat called Dorothy.

I learnt to sew as a child and picked it up again in high school, sewing my own ball gown (as well as other questionable garments).

Around this time I began feeling uneasy about the fast, throwaway nature of the fashion industry, due to both the well-known ethical reasons, and the overall poorness in quality, fit and design of the garments.

I’d always been a fan of second hand shops, and with this I began adding more pre-loved clothes and less high-street items to my wardrobe, with the occasional self-made dress thrown in.

Skip to late 2013. I’m working in a fabric shop during my University break and decide to look online for a t shirt pattern. I’d been trawling through the catalogues of the usual pattern companies when I stumble across Grainline Studio (and the Scout tee).

BOOM.

This discovery completely changed my view towards sewing. Not only were there amazing independent pattern companies in existence, but there were cool people making cool clothes and sharing them on the internet - I’d been totally oblivious to this world of cyber-sewists!

Since then, the vast majority of additions to my wardrobe have been self-made, mostly from the patterns of independent companies. I have perused the blogs of some pretty neat sewers and been rewarded with stacks of inspiration for my own sewing.

I’m ready to join in and share my own makes!
